Community Awareness

Building a community that fosters inclusivity is at the heart of what we do.  By spreading disability awareness and promoting the concept of inclusion, we are changing community perceptions. Browse our volunteer opportunities or contact us to coordinate a group training today!

Sakina Internship Program

Interns age 18 and up work one-on-one with students with disabilities while receiving monthly training in fields such as speech-language pathology, applied behavior analysis, pediatrics, and more. The internship is an excellent opportunity for college students to explore career paths and boost their CVs.

Volunteer Enrichment Program

Participants age 13-18 are extensively trained in inclusion and attend Dar-us-Sakina’s monthly events, where they buddy up and engage with peers with disabilities. Through this program, high schoolers are able to fulfill volunteer hours while truly making a difference.

Youth Inclusion Training

From Islamic Schools to MSAs, our team is ready to visit with youth groups to dispel disability-related stigma and teach inclusive etiquette and practices.

Community Events

Once a year, Dar-us-Sakina invites the entire Houston Muslim community to come out and learn about our cause. By sharing our perspective and the Islamic basis for inclusion, we educate and motivate attendees to make positive change.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Islamic Relief USA for their generous support of our community awareness programs.

Their partnership allows us to conduct disability awareness and interaction training throughout Houston and support lasting inclusion of individuals with special needs through our volunteer programs.
